Horseshoe Quarry - The Slabs
These are obvious and situated at the back of the quarry, facing you as you walk in. Their appearance is initially not very attractive but the climbing is good open face climbing, easy in the sports climbing grades and attracts any sun available. |
1. Neanderthal (5, 5+) left-hand line.Helmets essential! 2. Trog (4, 5) right-hand of two lines based on arete. Mediocre. 3. Excavator (5+) * the longest and best route. A 60m rope does not get you back to the ground. 4. Slab Cake (4+) 5. Spare Rib (5) branches right off Slab Cake. 6. The Cake Walk (5) 7. Christmas Pudding (4+) 8. Sago Slab (4) 9. Dream Topping (4) rightmost line at top right-corner of slope. |
On the left-hand side of the slabs are three more double pitch sports routes on the obvious cleaned strips of slab. These lie to the right of the Heart to heart Wall. Still Nacht (5+, 5) * the central line of the slab to the right with a one third height belay. It's new so take a helmet. Chauvi's Slab (5+,5+) The best of the two routes on the left-hand side of the slabs and perhaps a bit scary at one point for some tastes. Barney Rubble (5,5+) The lesser of the two lines and still a little bit loose and friable. |
